Shawnee National Forest Presentation
Martin asked Helmig if they could put in a kiosk at the Murphysboro ranger station with brochures and maps of the area for anyone to stop and pick up. Helmig stated she would take the information back to the Shawnee National Forrest and Helmig informed them the Murphysboro ranger station is now just a work center for the forrest and is not currently open to the public. Helmig and Wilson gave a presentation on the current and upcoming projects the Shawnee National Forrest is working on. Wilson gave a power point presentation of the 2017 tornado that went through Kinkaid lake area. The amount of damage was around 1 million board foot on the forrest floor and generated around $60,000 -$65,000 off of salvage. The operator currently has 65% cut out and removed, they have a little longer to go. Martin asked how many acres were damaged. Helmig responded in stating that 187 acres were damaged. The deadline is May 2020 depending on the weather. Wilson informed the board about another big project that the Army Corps of Engineers are working which is redoing some of the levee's at Oakwood Bottoms.
