The Jackson County Sheriff's Office will be conducting Merit Testing for the following positions, Deputy Sheriff - Peace Officer, Deputy Sheriff - Jail Officer, Telecommunicator, on February 21, 2015.  Interested parties much have completed applications turned into the Jackson County Sheriff's Office no later than 12:00 midnight on Tuesday, February 3, 2015.  Please follow this LINK for a copy of the application.

 

The county sheriff manages a diverse staff of professional law enforcement personnel and a modern jail facility in Murphysboro, Illinois.  

The Sheriff's Department is responsible for keeping the peace, suppressing riots, breaches of peace, and the apprehending of criminals.

The Sheriff's Department offers a variety of services for the citizens of the county with crime prevention and community services being the primary responsibilities of the department.

Sheriff's officers serve all writs, warrants, summonses, orders and decrees.

The department also offers 24-hour emergency service through officers on patrol and officers monitoring the front desk.

Visiting hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. everday.  Inmates are limited to one 30 minute visit per week and visits will be conducted via the video visitation system.

Duties and responsibilities of the sheriff are specified in Illinois state statutes.
